Bulldogs Knock off Cannon Falls-Randolph in First Round Section Battle
"I'll be back" is a famous quote from a 1980's Arnold Schwarznegger movie. The PEM wrestlers had the same idea in mind this year as they worked each week for the past 4 months to secure a spot in the Section 1AA dual team semi-final round. This all came to fruition on Thursday night as PEM faced off versus a stubborn Cannon Falls-Randolph team who hung around until the final 2 matches before the Bulldogs could claim victory. After Alex Hinrichs had his hand raised at 215, followed by a pin by Alex Bedsted at Hwt, could the grapplers earn a spot in the semi-final round at Mayo Civic Center on Saturday. PEM headed to the Civic Center for the first time in 5 years to face highly ranked Z-M. "It's good to be back, finally!", PEM coach Nate Pfeilsticker added. We will now see the Big Dogs with Z-M and K-M both being the favorites and highly state ranked. Added PEM Coach Cam Miller, "this has been a goal of this team since we all met on November 18th---- let's get back to Mayo! I couldn't be more proud of this team for accomplishing that goal!"

"All good things must come to an end" is an age old saying that applies to about anything in life. For the PEM wrestling team that coined phrase happened this past weekend at the Mayo Civic Center during the semi-final round of the Section 1AA tournament. The Bulldogs came up short against #8 ranked Z-M, 40-21, to close out their dual season. "I'm proud of this group as each week they displayed their GRIT for the past 4 months", PEM head coach Steve Hinrichs commented, "they have worked hard in the practice room, and showed their resilience during injuries, but rebounded as we got all but one of our starters back in time to make an impressive run for the the team portion of sections!" Z-M as always started with some top ranked wrestlers, but the PEM lower weights showed their toughness by keeping scores close until the middle weights. The Bulldog crowd came alive after PEM rattled off three straight wins with Josh Schad and Aiden Graner earning pins, followed by Nolan Ford's impressive win over state ranked Cain Lexvold to close the gap. Unfortunately Z-M had too much firepower on top and was able to hang on for the victory.
"The great news in this sport is that you get a 2nd chance," Hinrichs added. "There are many opportunities for Bulldog individual wrestlers now to punch their ticket to the Xcel Center and the MSHSL state tournament." I'm excited to head back to Mayo this Friday and Saturday and help these guys accomplish their dreams and goals."
