Senior Leaders Drive 2021 PEM Wrestling

The 2021 Bulldog wrestlers look to build on last year’s 14-10 record heading into the current year. With new Covid-related restrictions, this season’s schedule will not include any regular season individual tournaments, but predominantly a season of dual and triangular meets. Despite the loss of powerhouse All-State wrestlers Logan Wingert and Joe Stucky from last year’s squad, the current version of the Bulldogs again look to a strong senior class to provide leadership in the practice room and on the scoreboard.

This season’s current class of seniors features Cooper Hofschulte-138/145, Garrett Olson-138/145, Kael Lamb-152/160, Cael Marx-152/160, Dereck Boyum-170, and Alex Rahman-182. Together they bring a wealth of wrestling passion and experience to the table. As underclassmen, they have combined for over 400 varsity wins, 24 varsity letters, and 15 Section 1AA tournament medals. They are a cohesive and hard-working group who have all paid the price in the off-season weight room as well.

Also looking to build on last year’s result are juniors Isaac Walch-106, Tony Roberton-220, Martin Prieto-195, and Cody Schneider-285, as well as newcomer Devyn Hutchison-195/220. Walch, Roberton, and Prieto were all Section placewinners last season, with Roberton and Prieto both earning 1st team All Conference honors as well. Jacob Harlow-132/138 may also see some varsity action after wrestling in 4 varsity matches last season. Unfortunately, 21 match winner and 2020 Section Placewinner Austen Michel will miss the 2021 season as he recovers from an injury, but will look to bounce back in the 2021-22 season.

Rounding out the varsity practice room are sophomores Korbin Plaum-120, Sam Ring-145, Garion Wallgren-152, Dominic Michel-160, and Colton McNallan-170. Pflaum, Wallgren, and Michel all saw limited varsity action last season. This entire group will lead a strong JV and look to fill into the varsity line-up as they can.

Our team goals heading into the uncertain 2021 season are to stay healthy and work together, while focusing on individualized improvement and each wrestler reaching their potential at season’s end.
