The PEM wrestling team had a strong showing last week, finishing with a 2-0 record. They dominated Section foes Lake City 59-13 and Stewartville 55-15, improving their overall record to 5-1. At the 15-team Lacrosse Invitational, PEM secured 2nd place, with St. Croix Central of Wisconsin taking first.
Champions at the Lacrosse Tournament included Reid Ihkre, Aiden Graner, and Nolan Ford, with Nolan claiming his second consecutive tournament title. Owen Zabel, Carson Rahman, and Alex Bedsted earned runner-up honors, while Nash Graner and Alex Hinrichs took home 3rd place bronze medals.
Assistant Coach Marc Melcher commented on the victory over Stewartville, saying, "We finally got the edge on Stewie. We had been 0-3 in the past 3 years against them. Fun to get one up on them."
Head Coach Nate Pfeilsticker praised his wrestlers, stating, "Nolan, Aiden, and Reid really stepped up. Reid and Aiden are wrestling out of their minds. Nolan seems to own this tournament. We've never finished in the top 2 in this tournament, so it was fun to see a total team effort."
PEM will travel to the Rochester Mayo Civic Center on December 20-21 to compete against over 40 teams from across the Midwest in the prestigious Minnesota Christmas Tournament, featuring numerous returning state champions and all state wrestlers from all classes in Minnesota.
Coach Matiash shared his excitement for the upcoming Minnesota Christmas Tournament, saying, "The MN Christmas Tournament is the elite tournament of all wrestling tournaments in MN. Can't wait to see where our guys stack up in such a tough tournament next weekend."
