The Plainview-Elgin-Millville (PEM) wrestling team is gearing up for an exciting 2024-25 season, with a focus on grit, determination, and improvement. Coming off a solid 14-12 record last year, the Bulldogs are ready to hit the mats with high energy and high expectations.
This year’s squad boasts an impressive 18 returning letterwinners, including 12 section placewinners. Among the standouts are seniors Nolan Pfeilsticker, Alex Hinrichs, Alex Bedsted, Josh Schad, Drew Rahman, and Carson Rahman, who bring leadership and experience to the team.
Junior Aiden Graner, a returning state placewinner, is poised for another strong season, while senior Alex Bedsted, a state entrant last year, is aiming to make an even deeper postseason run. These athletes, along with a strong core of teammates, make PEM a formidable opponent in Section 1AA and the competitive Three Rivers Conference.
Head Coach Steve Hinrichs is optimistic about what this year’s team can achieve, emphasizing the importance of grit as their guiding theme. “Grit is what sets apart good teams from great ones,” Hinrichs said. “Our guys are ready to put in the work, not just to win, but to enjoy the journey and push each other to be better every day.”
The Bulldogs face stiff competition in Section 1AA, with powerhouse programs like the Kasson-Mantorville (KM) Komets and Zumbrota-Mazeppa (ZM) Cougars leading the pack with defending Class A State Champion, Chatfield as the favorite in the Three River Conference. However, PEM’s combination of experienced veterans and rising talent positions them as a team to watch this season.
As they prepare for the challenges ahead, the Bulldogs are focused on improving as a team, having fun, and embracing every moment on the mat. With their grit and determination, this team has the potential to achieve great things while creating lasting memories.
The season kicks off Thursday December 5th at Waseca, with the first home match on Friday December 6th with Z-M. Come and join the many PEM fans who are ready to cheer on their Bulldogs in what promises to be an action-packed wrestling season.
