60 years is an anniversary worth celebrating! PEM wrestling will have their own celebration on January 18th as they host Rochester Mayo and Byron in a southeast Minnesota triangular. The PEM program started its existence in 1962 and many years later is recognized for their strong wrestling tradition. This tradition includes 24 team conference champions, 120 state individual entrants, 9 individual state champions, 7 section 1 team titles, and 4 state team placings!
As part of the celebration on the 18th, PEM Head Coach Steve Hinrichs hopes to get the gang back together again. "I would love to see as many PEM wrestlers from the past 60 years as possible. Come and join our wrestling party!"
Part of the plans for the evening include Mayo, Byron, and PEM wrestlers wearing "throwback" singlets from the past 60 years during their triangular. There will be a short 60 year program with a recognition of the thousand plus alumni wrestlers who have worn the maroon and gold as well as the black and gold singlets during the past 6 decades. "We will also celebrate the future with a short youth wrestling scrimmage from our elementary wrestlers." Hinrichs added.
Alumni wrestlers should identify themselves as they enter the building at the ticket table and they will be a part of the evening's program before the Byron match.
The schedule for the evening will be as follows:
5 PM - Byron vs Mayo
6;15 PM - Mayo vs PEM
7:30 PM - Alumni program and Youth Night Scrimmage
7:45 PM - PEM vs Byron
