PEM Wrestlers Takedown Cancer!

The PEM wrestling team went for the trifecta on Tuesday Dec 21. During their home dual vs Rochester Century, the Bulldogs defeated the Panthers, recognized Jordyn Schumacher as she takes down cancer and honored those educators who have impacted our young grapplers lives! Coach Nate Pfeilsticker commented, "it was a great night!, the wrestlers responded to a big night in front of a large home crowd with a lot to be thankful for!"

The Bulldogs were able to pull out 10 of 14 individual victories behind the momentum from a home crowd excited to see wrestling action for the first time in 2 years. Coach Wingert added, "glad to see our guys show their GRIT! It was all about the Team tonight, our team showed Improvement from last week's tough Christmas tournament.

The evening started with a standing ovation for Jordyn Schumacher who was in the house! Jordyn is currently battling Hodgins Lymphoma, but made an appearance as the PEM wrestling team promoted the purple bracelets and t-shirts to help out her cause. Coach Bedsted was impressed, "I don't think you'll see this much purple being worn at a Vikings game! Great job to our fans for showing their support!"

The evening also included each wrestler recognizing their favorite teacher since Kindergarten. Every 9-12 wrestler had their teacher in attendance and many had a chance to snap a picture after the dual had concluded. Teachers were recognized by PA announcer Paul Aarsvold who also was able to read a short summary of why the teachers had such an impact on their lives. Hwt Tony Roberton wrapped up the evening with an exciting one point victory. Tony's name was chanted "TONY, TONY, TONY" by the large elementary wrestling crowd who took time out of their practice schedule to show their support for their favorite youth coach! Coach Cam Miller added, "I don't think Tony will forget this night, what more to ask for than to have 800+ people chanting your name and to pull out a big win!"

The PEM wrestling team will next travel to the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire this Thursday, December 30th. They will compete against some of the best teams in Minnesota and Wisconsin in a 5 dual format that will start at 9 AM and conclude by 5 PM. Check out next week's article for a summary on the action.
