PEM Wrestlers Celebrate Senior Night

Graner Notches Win #150; Ford Grabs Win #100

There's a time to celebrate and that night was Thursday night as a high flying Lewiston-Altura/Rushford-Peterson (LARP) squad came to town with an upset in mind.  PEM held off the state ranked Screaming Eagles to secure a 35-27 victory in front of a raucous crowd that had more than one reason to celebrate the win.  Junior Aiden Graner took down 5th ranked Quintin Betthaser in dramatic technical fashion to a standing ovation as the crowd cheered on career win number 150!  Not to be outdone, Nolan Ford notched career win #100 in the very next match to help PEM grind out the Three Rivers Conference victory!  Added PEM coach Daren Wingert, "those 2 wins helped out greatly.  Nice to see the career milestones achieved and they also helped us put a stamp on a much needed win going into Sections!"

PEM also made time to appreciate the careers of 6 wrestlers and one manager.  Seniors Alex Bedsted, Alex Hinrichs, Drew Rahman, Carson Rahman, Nolan Pfielsticker, and Josh Schad were acknowledged for the many years spent on the mat.  The crowd also said thanks to Manager Tessa Kellner for all the long hours of dedication she has put into helping the PEM squad stay successful.  Commented Head Coach Steve Hinrichs, "this crew has been around a long time!  I remember each one of them as they stepped into the wrestling room as early as Pre-K!  I had the honor of working with them the past 14 years and Thursday night was a great way to pay tribute to their dedication!  Their mom's involvement in the evening's program, senior banner presentations and personal standees were a great way to say Thanks for everything.  They will all be missed!"

The Bulldogs will now head into Section 1AA team duals this Thursday.  PEM with their 20-8 record, were awarded the #4 seed and will host Cannon Falls and Austin on Thursday night in Plainview.  The Dogs will take on the winner of #5 seeded Cannon Falls and #12 seeded Austin.  First dual is at 6 PM.  The next round with PEM will take place around 7 PM.  The winner of Thursday night will advance to Mayo Civic Center on Saturday to determine the Section 1AA champion and state bound team.  PEM Coach Mike Matiash added, "always good to host a first round match.  I'm excited to see with a healthy lineup where this team goes!"
