Varsity Wrestler of the Week: Connor Jones

Connor Jones is this week’s PEM varsity wrestler of the week. He is the son of Chris and Michelle Jones and is a sophomore at PEM high school. Jones earns this honor for his outstanding performance last weekend winning 4 matches, including 3 by fall. Jones was not involved in youth wrestling and has been a JV wrestler for the past 3 years. This season, due to team injuries, Jones was thrust into the varsity line-up at the 152 lb weight class. This is perhaps the toughest weight class in high school wrestling from one year to the next, featuring predominantly experienced upper classmen. Throughout the 1st half of the season, Jones has battled to catch up to the speed of the varsity level. Through it all, he has maintained a good attitude, continuing to work hard in both in practice and in the classroom. Jones is also involved in Bulldog football and is very dedicated to weight training all throughout the year.

JH Wrestler of the Week: Carter Balcome

Carter Balcome is this week’s PEM JH wrestler of the week. He is the son of Jim and Char Balcome and is an 8th grader at PEM Junior High. Balcome earns this honor for winning the championship at the Stewartville JV Invitational. This was Balcome’s first tournament championship and he went 3-0 with 3 pins. Balcome also participates in PEM football as well as wrestling.
