PEM Varsity and Junior High WOTW-2/12/2017

PEM Varsity Wrestler of the Week: Logan Wingert

Logan Wingert is this week’s PEM varsity wrestler of the week. Logan is the son of Pete and Lisa Wingert, and is a freshman at PEM high school. Logan earns this award for his steady effort throughout the season. As a 230 lb. 9th grader wrestling heavyweight, Logan has consistently been much younger and smaller than the great majority of his opponents. Despite difficult odds, Logan has continued to persevere throughout the season. Logan has been working all season to get his record to .500 and with his victory Thursday night, evened out his record at 16-16. Logan also had an excellent performance in the last individual tournament of the regular season at Rochester Century, making it to the finals, and in the process defeating a very good (26 win) senior wrestler from Riceville, IA. While undersized for the weight class, Logan has achieved a very high level of conditioning for a heavyweight, and has begun to learn how to use his conditioning to his advantage. In addition to wrestling, Logan also performed well in the classroom and maintained a high GPA through his first semester of high school.

PEM JH Wrestler of the Week: Martin Prieto

Martin Prieto is this week’s JH wrestler of the week. Martin is the son of Javier and Rosie Prieto and is a 7th grader at PEM Junior High. Martin earns this award for continuing to learn and improve throughout this season. Martin wrestles 152 on the JV team as a 7th grader, which is often a weight class filled by 9th and 10th graders. Martin has faced difficult competition all season, and has continued to improve, earning a pin on Thursday night in the dual meet and a pin in the JV conference tournament held in Chatfield last Saturday. Martin has been very committed to lifting weights both in the summer, and in the morning before school during the school year. The strength that he is building, and will continue to build will help ensure his future improvement as he continues his wrestling career for the Bulldogs.
