PEM Varsity Wrestler of the Week: Austin Rother
PEM Senior captain Austin Rother is this week’s PEM varsity wrestler of the week. Austin earns this honor after earning the first individual tournament championship of the year for the Bulldogs last weekend in Faribault. In the finals, Austin came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat his state ranked Stillwater opponent by a score of 6-2. Austin starts out his senior season 3-0 after a 29-11 junior campaign. Most of Austin’s success is due in no small part to his work ethic. In addition to wrestling, Austin was a 1st team all-conference offensive lineman on the football field last fall. Austin has been a regular fixture in the PEM weight room since 9th grade, and is an accomplished student with a 3.9 cumulative GPA. Austin is the son of Ed and Donna Rother of Plainview.
PEM JH Wrestler of the Week: Dereck Boyum
PEM freshman Dereck Boyum is this week’s PEM JV wrestler of the week. Dereck earns this award after going 3-0 enroute to a tournament championship in the JV portion of the Faribault invitational in the 126 pound division. Boyum was 1 of 3 PEM freshmen to win championships in the tournament. Dereck has improved greatly in the past 3 wrestling seasons largely due to the fact that he is not afraid to seek out challenging practice partners. In addition to wrestling, Boyum has also been an active weightlifter in the summer and also plays football and baseball for the Bulldogs.
