The PEM wrestling team visited the Chosen Valley and in an exciting and intense Three Rivers Conference battle last week. The rivalry lived up to its billing as the 2 teams competed in a packed CHS gymnasium that saw come from behind wins and controversial calls. Coach Pfeilsticker commented, "I was impressed with our young lineup and the GRIT they showed going into a very loud gym. This place can be very unforgiving, but PEM showed what they can do moving forward." In the end, the state ranked Chatfield Gophers pulled out a 45-27 victory. Coach Wingert added, "Chatfield is one of the favorites in the TRC, but PEM didn't back down in front of a standing room only crowd."
Notable wins vs. Chatfield were Carson Rahman with a pin, Garion Wallgren with a major victory, Dominic Michel with a impressive win, Alex Hinrichs who scored a takedown and near fall in the last 5 seconds to pullout a win, Alex Bedsted with a injury disqualification and Martin Prieto with a technical fall victory.
The second match of the night saw PEM take on St. Charles with the Bulldogs earning a 52-30 win. Nolan Pfeilsticker was the hero of the match as he came from behind in the 3rd period, threw a headlock and won by pin! Carson Rahman also continued his winning ways with a fall to extend his winning streak to 8 matches. Coach Cam Miller summarized the match, "Nolan and Carson are starting to come into their own as varsity wrestlers. Nolan's headlock was as good as there is and he threw it when the chips were down to win!".
PEM starts a busy schedule this Friday with another TRC triangular with rivals Caledonia and LARP. The match will take place at R-P high school. The PEM Invite continues after a one year Covid break this Saturday with 13 teams traveling to Plainview for some hot wrestling action!
