The PEM Bulldog Mantra of GRIT was in full display this past week. The young dogs showed their gutsy courage this past week as they traveled west to Kasson-Mantorville and Byron on Thursday and Friday. PEM continued to schedule some of the toughest teams in Minnesota by taking on state ranked #2 K-M and also state ranked Rochester Mayo from Minnesota's biggest wrestling class. The dogs finished the week with a 1-3 record and are currently sitting on the season with an 8-8 overall record. Six of PEM's losses have been to top ranked teams in either Minnesota or Wisconsin.
PEM was able to defeat Byron 54-19, but lost to K-M 56-11; Pine Island 38-33; and Mayo 32-27.
PEM coach Nate Pfeilsticker commented, "K-M doesn't have a hole in their lineup. They have over half their lineup ranked in the state. Glad to see Carson Rahman and Alex Bedsted defeat some tough kids! Carson finished the 2 days with a 4-0 record. Alex Bedsted pinned the #9 ranked 215 pounder in the state. Great win for him!"
The Bulldogs also had a number of wrestlers end the 2 days with 3-1 records including Cooper Mack, Aiden Graner, Alex Hinrichs, Alex Bedsted and Drew Rahman. PEM Coach Daren Wingert added, "a lot can be learned from wrestling these top ranked teams. The to-do list is long with items we have to take back to the practice room and build on, but that's why we schedule these teams to show our improvement!"
PEM will now schedule 4 more matches this week as they travel to Lake City on Thursday night for section matches with the Tigers and Cannon Falls. Then head home for a triangular on Friday night with Goodhue and section foe, Waseca. Coach Bobby Bedsted, summed up the past week,"I see the GRIT in this team and the mindset of not quitting no matter how tough the competition. These guys are not only learning how to be tough on the mat but to show their resilience and learn the life lessons they will need from here on out."
