Two days later, the Bulldogs traveled to Hayfield to wrestle a triangular with the Triton Cobras and the newly formed Westfield Razorbacks (consolidation of Hayfield and Blooming Prairie). Up first were Triton Cobras, a very young team coached by E-M grad and former PEM great Tyler Johnson. Things were on the right track for the Bulldogs right from the start, winning the first 8 matches. At 106 Cael Marx picked up a fall. At 113 Garrett Olson gathered a forfeit. At 120, Bulldog 8th grader Dereck Boyum competed in his very first varsity match and won by technical fall with a score of 15-0. At 126, junior Nick Miller won via forfeit. At 132 Reed DeFrang picked up another pin. At 138, Grant Rubin collected a forfeit. At 145 and 152, sophomores Lafe Aarsvold and Carter Marx scored two more pins for the Bulldogs. Triton got on the board at 160, as PEM’s Connor Jones dropped a decision. Austin Rother got PEM back on track picking up a major decision at 170. At 182 Frank Wingert collected one more forfeit for the Bulldogs. At 195 and 220, Jacob Clark and Riley Wingert collected two more pins for the Bulldogs. In the final match of the dual, Logan Wingert almost collected the pin, but it wasn’t called, and ultimately gave up a pin to close out the dual with the Bulldogs winning 69-10.

In the next dual of the night, the Bulldogs faced off against the newly formed Westfield Razorbacks of Hayfield and Blooming Prairie. The Razorbacks came into the night undefeated, with 3 state ranked wrestlers, and riding a wave of momentum. The meet got off to a great start with PEM 8th grader Cael Marx knocking off #3 ranked Westfield junior Ethan Arett by a score of 3-1. A fired up Garrett Olson continued the momentum for PEM taking down Westfield sophomore Wyatt Brennan and put him on his back for the first period fall. At 120, in just his 2nd varsity match, PEM 8th grader Dereck Boyum once again stepped up and got the job done, winning by a score of 11-6, in what would end up in being an extremely important match. At 126, PEM junior Nick Miller bumped up two weight classes to face Westfield’s Riley Schultz for another 1st period fall. 132 lb. PEM senior Reed DeFrang, scored his 10th pin of the season, also in the first period making the score PEM 24 Westfield 0. But the Razorbacks were not about to go away quietly. At 138, PEM senior Grant Rubin battled valiantly and nearly defeated Westfield senior Jackson Heydt but ultimately lost 5-3. At 145 Carter Marx collected a decision over Jordan Sullivan by a score of 10-4. At 152 Westfield’s Seth Peterson scored a fall over PEM sophomore Connor Jones. At 160, due to injuries, the Bulldogs were forced to forfeit to 5th ranked Colten Krell of Westfield. At 170, PEM junior Austin Rother and Westfield’s Morgen Moreno had a back and forth battle that unfortunately ended with Rother caught in a throw and pinned in the 3rd period. With the Bulldogs dropping 3 matches in a row by fall, and clinging to a 6 point lead, PEM was in desperate need of a victory. Senior Frank Wingert was up for the challenge. Despite being down early, Wingert battled back to win the match 9-6. Knowing that 2 of Westfield best wrestlers reside in the last two weight classes, the Bulldogs needed one more victory out of senior Jacob Clark, and that was just what he delivered. Using a series of head-snaps and front headlocks, Clark was able to score 4 takedowns and get the major decision by a score of 15-5. This gave the Bulldogs an insurmountable 13 point lead, which they would need as the Westfield upper weights collected two pins over PEM freshmen Riley and Logan Wingert.
