The Bulldogs showcased their determination, taking down Rochester Mayo for the first time in six years and defeating section rivals Byron and LaCrescent. Despite battling injuries, the team displayed grit and resilience, improving to an impressive 15-2 record this season. PEM coach Nate Pfeilsticker added, "great to see such a hot start vs Mayo. We won 44-27, but were up 40-4 to start the match. Our light guys were ready to roll. Easton King knocked off, in an upset, one of Mayo's top wrestlers at 121!"
Standout performances included Owen Zabel, Carson Rahman, Alex Hinrichs, Josh Schad, Easton King, and Cooper Mack, each finishing the week with a perfect 4-0 record. Coach Wingert commented, "Some of these guys are really starting to put together some nice win streaks! They are stepping up big with some of our tougher kids out. Can't wait to see the starting lineup back in place!"
Up next, the Bulldogs will face conference rivals Fillmore Central-Lanesboro-Mabel-Canton and Caledonia-Houston on Thursday. As part of the evening's festivities, the team will honor top educators in the PEM district. Coach Matiash added, "a cool event for some cool teachers. We have the teacher-wrestler social at 5:15 PM in the high school foyer. This will be a great lead into wrestling one of our section/conference rivals Caledonia-Houston at 6:15 PM. Should be a full house ----- I can't wait!"
