PEM Takes Down LaCrescent
On Friday January 20, the PEM wrestling team hosted a double dual with Lacrescent and Kasson-Mantorville. The first event on the evening feautured the Three Rivers Conference dual between the Bulldogs and the Lancers of Lacrescent. In addition to being a young and building team, the Lancers were also missing a few wrestlers from their line-up due to injury, leading to a very lop-sided dual meet. The Bulldogs used a combination of 8 pins and 6 forfeits to put up 84 points against the Lancers. Getting pins for the Bulldogs were 113-Garrett Olson (8), 120-Nick Miller (11), 126-Joe Stucky (9), 145-Carter Marx (10), 152-Connor Jones (10), 160-Dustin Dittrich (10), 195-Riley Wingert (9), and 220-Jacob Clark (12)

PEM loses to Top-ranked K-M Komets
The second opponent of the night was the polar opposite of the first, featuring the defending state champion Kasson-Mantorville Komets. The Komets came into the evening ranked 1st in MN and 26th in the entire United States. They are currently the highest nationally ranked team in MN in any class, and one of only 4 MN teams in the top 50 of the national rankings. In addition the Komet line-up featured 10 wrestlers ranked in the top 10 of their weight class in MN, including 3 previous state champions, as well as one other wrestler currently ranked #1. Every Bulldog in the line-up battled valiantly, but in the end #2 ranked PEM senior Reed DeFrang was the only PEM wrestler to secure a victory. Despite battling hard in the other matches the Bulldogs would have to settle for moral victories like not getting pinned in 9 of the 14 contests, and losing by close decisions in 3 of those matches. According to Coach Marx, “we got to see where we stack up against likely the best team in MN, and one of the best teams in America. I was proud of the way our wrestlers competed overall, and I hope it will prove to be a valuable learning experience, as we continue to prepare for the Section Tournament.”
