Thursday Jan, 26, the PEM wrestling team traveled to Chatfield to take on the Gophers in a Three Rivers Conference meet. Chatfield started out hot in the first two weights using come-from-behind victories to take a 9-0 lead. Nick Miller got the Bulldogs on track at 120 getting a fall and putting the Bulldogs on the scoreboard. 126 Joe Stucky and 132 Reed DeFrang earned a major decision and a technical fall to give the Bulldogs a 15-9 lead. The Gophers were far from finished though, and they would use a decision victory at 138, and two pins at 145 and 152 to retake a 9 point lead 24-15. The Bulldogs then got back on track in a big way with five straight pins by Dustin Dittrich (160), Austin Rother (170), Frank Wingert (182), Jacob Clark (195), and Riley Wingert (220) scoring 30 unanswered points creating an insurmountable 45-24 lead into the 285 lb. match. Chatfield would finish the night with a pin at 285, but it would prove too little and too late to overcome the PEM surge in the upper weights. Coach Marx commented, “Chatfield is a greatly improved team, and was a very quality opponent this evening. They deserve great credit for how hard they fought especially in matches when they were down. I’m also very proud of how our upper weights recaptured the momentum that appeared to be going the other way. This evening should prove to be a great learning experience for all as we continue toward the post-season.”
